What is Tarot-Based Therapy?
Tarot-based therapy is the use of the symbolic imagery of the 78-card system as a projective tool to facilitate a discussion regarding unconscious beliefs. Originally an ancient playing card system in Eastern cultures, tarot has seen an increase in popularity in the mainstream culture in recent years. While tarot is not used for divination in therapy, the value in its use lies in the imagery and symbols to open up a conversation about what the client sees in the imagery from their own unique perspective. The deck of tarot cards include archetypal imagery which represents the process of transformation across the life span. By analyzing these images in session, clients are provided with an alternative lens through which to view a problem or issue in their lives. Similar to how art and play therapy are used with adults and children as a vehicle to contain and ground an exploration of feelings in a creative manner, tarot-based therapy offers a “conversation starter” and symbolic centerpiece through which to frame a problem or situation that may be contributing to anxiety or depression. Imagery and projection has long been used in various forms of therapy to bring to light our subconscious psyche, and our search for meaning often turns inward during times of uncertainty and stress. It is therefore unsurprising that tarot in general has gained popularity, as it offers individuals a vocabulary through which to speak about a problem. Tarot-based therapy allows unconscious belief systems the opportunity to have a seat at the therapy table as an integrated part of the client’s treatment, and allows therapist and client to engage in a dialogue regarding the role of these limiting core beliefs and unhelpful behaviors without judgment.

Tarot-based Therapy Sessions
Upon request, I offer sessions which incorporate the use of the archetypal imagery of tarot as a projective tool in order to gain psychological insight into the subsconscious psyche. By gaining insight into the psyche, we delve deeper into the limiting core belief systems that may currently be contributing to your mental health symptoms. I welcome clients to direct the process by incorporating spiritual or archetypal imagery that is most resonant to them. I offer a safe space to clients from all spiritual walks of life in order to fully support their wellbeing and mental health journey.
